Easy Mongolian Beef

A flavor-packed, easy-to-make Mongolian beef dish that’s perfect for a busy weeknight or an impressive weekend meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (such as flank steak)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep the beef: Start by slicing the flank steak thinly against the grain.
  2. Coat the beef: In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced beef with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat the pan: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the beef: Once the oil is hot, add the beef in a single layer and sear for about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Sauté the veggies: In the same pan, add the chopped green onions and sliced bell pepper, and sauté for about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Make the sauce: Lower the heat, return the cooked beef to the pan, and pour in the soy sauce, brown sugar, and ground ginger.
  7. Plate up: After the sauce has thickened, remove the pan from heat and serve hot over cooked rice or noodles, garnished with sesame seeds.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add more red pepper flakes. Can be served over rice, noodles, or with veggies.
