Biscuits and Gravy Casserole

A comforting twist on a classic breakfast staple, this Biscuits and Gravy Casserole combines fluffy biscuit layers with creamy sausage gravy for a deliciously easy dish.

  • 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups (600 ml) milk, whole or 2%
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 cans (about 16 oz / 450 g) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley or chives

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
  3. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
  4. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking until thickened.
  5. Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes to the gravy, stirring to combine.
  6. Cut the biscuit dough into quarters and layer them in the baking dish.
  7. Pour the sausage gravy over the biscuit pieces.
  8. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives before serving.
