Easy Swiss Steak

A comforting classic featuring tender cubed steak simmered with colorful veggies in a savory tomato-based sauce.

Ingredients

  • Cubed Steak
  • Onion
  • Bell Pepper
  • Canned Tomatoes
  • Beef Broth
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Flour

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients: Dice your onion and bell peppers, and keep your canned tomatoes within arm’s reach.
  2. Dredge the Steak: Sprinkle both sides of the cubed steak with salt and pepper, then dredge in flour.
  3. Heat the Pan: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a splash of oil and let it get hot.
  4. Sear the Steak: Add the steak pieces to the hot oil and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, sauté the diced onions and bell peppers for about 5 minutes.
  6. Add the Tomatoes and Broth: Return the steak to the skillet, then add canned tomatoes and beef broth.
  7. Simmer: Bring to a gentle simmer, cover and let it cook for about 45 minutes.
  8. Check for Doneness: Uncover and stir; check the steak for tenderness, cooking longer if needed.
  9. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the sauce before serving and add additional salt, pepper, and herbs if desired.

Notes

For a richer sauce, add a splash of red wine during simmering. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables.
